For some of us buying clothes in a store, whether in boy or gurl mode is a thrill, however it isn’t always practical, particularly if you are trying keep your crossdressing proclivities on the down low. Online is the next best alternative, however it has its challenges. This is the first in a series of articles that will discuss these challenges and suggest ways to avoid or deal with them.
How do I know what will look good on me?
This is probably the biggest issue for those just starting out. I would suggest you start with a cheap store (feminization.us), while you won’t necessarily find the latest styles they are relatively cheap so you may be able to afford to buy several different cuts/styles to try on at home, and then return the rest to your local store, just tell them you are returning them for your girlfriend . Once you get a feel for your size and style my favorite online shopping place is F (the F has some of my favorite styles).
Getting the sizing right is always a challenge. Not only are the sizes different from sissy men, there are more measurements involved. See our “Hey gurl what’s your size?” post for a complete rundown on sizes. I will reinforce that you should always review the fashion companies sizing chart as they are not all the same.

Below are some other things to think about:
- Find a model in a catalog that has a hair color and complexion that is close to your own. Flip/browse through the catalog and see what styles and colors she is photographed in, and that will give you an idea what might work for you. Some of the online catalogs will allow you to change the color of the shirt/dress on the model which is also very helpful in identifying the right color for you.
- Spandex/elastic are your friend at least in the fit department. If you want something close fit and can’t try stuff on clothes with a significant spandex component will help you get the tight fit you want with less risk of having to return it because it’s the wrong size. Elastic waists don’t look sexy but they pretty much guarantee those pants/skirt will fit.
- Patterns and stripes are always hit and miss. Stripes in particular can accentuate the fact that, unless you are luck you don’t have a woman’s curves. Solids are more forgiving in that department.
- If you are like me and can’t shave your arms, long sleeves are your friend, just take note that these go away largely in the spring and summer. Your biggest selection will be in the fall and winter collections.
- Don’t know what color dress to get, if you have a light complexion you can almost never go wrong with Black. Dark complexion dressers can almost never go wrong with red.
- I hope these tips help and will continue to add articles with additional tips.
